This project will examine the role of the memory of Muslim Sicily in the Italian political and intellectual contexts from pre-Unification until our days. It aims to explore references to Muslim Sicily within broader discussions on Italian national identity, the Peninsula's Southern regions, Catholicism, Islam, and issues of race and ethnicity. Ultimately, it seeks to shed light on the intricate relationship between nation, memory, identity, and alterity in Italy and Europe
