Abstract
Digital ID is a form of legal identity that relies on the end-to-end digitization of the identity ecosystem, accelerating progress towards SDG 16.9, to provide legal identity for all, and the objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration. This research on the fundamental role of digital ID in the Global South reviews the impact of digital ID systems and policies in realising social and financial inclusion for migrant populations. Specifically, the report examines strategies adopted by national and international actors in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
