Abstract

Developing countries must generate tax revenue to meet sustainable development goals. Tax treaties, crucial for determining taxing rights between nations, often favor developed countries. These imbalances result in significant revenue losses for developing countries, particularly in resource-rich regions and the growing service sector. Using the Tax Treaties Explorer dataset, this study identifies restrictive provisions that disadvantage South Centre member states, and provides recommendation for revision of tax treaties.
