Abstract
What explains the recent surge in coup-making in sub-Saharan Africa? Can it be attributed to the birth pangs of the continent’s developing but flailing democracy? Or is it simply because the continent, as some would describe it, has never successfully consolidated its democracy in its postcolonial history?
