Abstract

This research conceptualises the 'model minority' - the idea that certain minorities are better skilled and more professionally successful than others - as a politics of belonging undergirded by cultural repertoires of 'good migrant' and 'good citizen' to understand the claims to belonging made by British South Asians, both historically and through the political mobilisations of contemporary ethnic medical associations, in response to British political projects that defined national belonging.
