Abstract

This doctoral dissertation will reconstruct the genealogy of the security policies of France and Britain, using the case studies of French policy in Algeria and British colonial policy in Kenya. It will analyse contemporary security policies including counterterrorism, migration and policing in the context of globalised world, arguing that the that two former great powers now seek to reconstitute a post-imperial nostalgia as exemplified by the populist shift to the Right.
