Abstract

This article aims at identifying the mechanism how political connections create disparities in export performance among garment factories in Bangladesh. Using a novel dataset from secondary sources, I establish political connections between the Bangladesh politicians and garment factories based on ownership and family connections. I find that the incumbency of connected politicians generates a substantial premium on the export performance using the customs record of Bangladesh.
