Abstract

This Preliminary Thesis Dissertation proposes multimodal research to study carceral life in Indian prisons, albeit from the outside. In this research, I reflect on the porous nature of prison boundaries to understand how a shared social life is produced between incarcerated persons inside the prison, and the world outside. In doing this, I privilege visuality and visual interactions in carceral contexts and pay attention to the perspectives of prisoners' families and other meaningful relations.
