Abstract

Since recently, the vast majority of armed conflicts have become internal armed conflicts involving staggering number of armed groups. Considering the proliferation and fragmentation of armed groups in this conflicts, this thesis argues that the applicability of international law to non-state armed groups as well as the scope of international law obligations of NSAGs will be affected by the typology of armed groups in contemporary armed conflicts.
