Abstract

This project concentrates on credibility assessment within asylum procedures involving queer applicants in Switzerland. Queer asylum seekers must convince authorities not only of the persecution they have faced but also of their queerness itself, a fluid and intimate aspect of their identity. How does one prove queerness? Ethnographically investigating this question, I will unpack its implications for the way 'truth' is conceptualised within asylum systems but also anthropology at large.
