Abstract
This MPT raises the question of what 'illegality' means in the context of migration, how it is constructed and reproduced and how it articulates with other notions of (il-)legitimacy of migrants' presence in a particular space. The project looks at Afghan migrations in Turkey to explore what processes of meaning-making surround legal forms of in- and exclusions, and the registers and practices illegalized migrants draw on to navigate Turkey's border regime and its notions of legitimacy.
