Abstract

As a historical analogy of constructing global order triggered by fears of cataclysmic events, I focus on the theorisation of the U.S. and the Holy See's rapprochement on the League of Nations as utopian internationalism and a return to the pre-Westphalian paradigm of international order, the religious concept of the League serving, under the universal moral guardianship of the Catholic Church, as a means of diffusion of norms of the source of legitimacy of a superpower.
