Abstract
The article describes how Volkswagen (VW) took root in Brazil in the 1960s-70s. The company made local visions of development its own, appearing as a key partner in the Brazilian national project. The "national-developmentalist" conversion of VW was notably facilitated by policies of the governing dictatorship, which perceived the opening to foreign capital as a necessary step to modernize Brazil.
