Abstract
Not only does the generic term "decolonisation" barely acknowledge the diverse experiences of colonial rule, the wide variety of anticolonial movements or the continuities with the past that define today’s global South, the old division into precolonial, colonial and postcolonial eras doesn’t stand up to scrutiny either.
