Abstract

This MPT presents a project whose aim is to investigate how UN multilateral sanctions affect peacemaking and peacebuilding, by using a multi-method strategy. Anchored in a rationalist tradition, an effect-based theoretical conceptualization for sanctions is presented as well several hypotheses linking sanctions to peacemaking and peacebuilding. Its main aim is to contribute towards a better theorization of sanctions and to estabilish dialogue with the broader conflict resolution literature.
