Abstract

This dissertation brings together into a synthesis model the recent advances in the field of New Institutional Economics with respect to the making of markets and the applies these insights in two policy areas in order to identify priority areas of reform. The first essay develops the synthesis model. The second and third essays apply this model respectively to the development of real estate markets in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland and to the process of institutional reform of the WTO
