We show that leading theoretical trade models fail to explain at least some of these facts, and propose a variant of the Melitz model that can account for all the facts. In our model, high quality firms are the most competitive, with heterogeneous quality increasing with firms' heterogeneous cost. 000012529 580__ $$aIn: American economic journal : microeconomics. - Nashville. - Volume 3(2011), Issue 2, pages 60-88 000012529 700__ $$aBaldwin, Richard E 000012529 700__ $$aHarrigan, James 000012529 8564_ $$9ec133716-6f1f-442f-8630-3d02e3739fab$$s604901$$uhttps://repository.graduateinstitute.ch/record/12529/files/mic.3.2.60.pdf 000012529 8564_ $$9432bb9a8-d986-4f4d-88c2-30c4ed176481$$xpdfa$$s1612263$$uhttps://repository.graduateinstitute.ch/record/12529/files/mic.3.2.60.pdf?subformat=pdfa 000012529 901__ $$uInternational Economics Department$$0319285 000012529 909CO $$ooai:repository.graduateinstitute.ch:12529$$pGLOBAL_SET$$pIHEID:Explore 000012529 980__ $$aARTICLE
