Abstract

This dissertation deals with the issue of integrating Hong Kong and argues that the handing over of the territory to the mainland in July 1997, is actually a formality of an ongoing integration process that has been evolving since 1979.

Through examining the main issues of the political and economic aspects of the integration process, the author has unveiled that China, in fact, didn't have any pre-planned strategy for the integration of Hong Kong; it only gradually took shape as she was forced with the events, situations, etc...

Meanwhile, through exploring the island's own integration pattern, the author has built a tentative model for Hong Kong's integration, and underlined the model's uniqueness.
