Abstract
The Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration is the first intergovernmental agreement prepared under the auspices of the United Nations intending to cover the dimensions of international migration in a comprehensive and holistic way. It aims to enhance cooperation on migration, while respecting the sovereignty of states and upholding the human rights of migrants. Although the Compact is not legally binding as such, it expresses a broad range of commitments of states to frame and develop migration governance through a collective, people-centred, and evidence-based approach.
