Abstract

As the Covid-19 pandemic raged, Western countries pumped money into their domestic economies, leading ultimately to a substantial inflationary spiral. At the same time, many developing countries saw significant increases in their levels of public debt. In this highly volatile situation, China deserves particular attention, as, for the first time, it now plays a crucial role in debt-financing for the Global South.
