Abstract

"States and armed groups establish intricate and diverse relationships during civil wars, from close cooperation to intense warfare. Complex conflict constellations are particularly apparent within multi-actor civil wars. The proposed thesis aims to compare the varying constellations and to account for their emergence and continuous development. To this end, the thesis offers a new dependent variable - triadic orders in civil war -; that provides researchers with 'data containers'; to systematically identify and compare complex warring dynamics.
