Governing the Cellular Form - The Regulation of Stem Cell Research and Therapeutics in India

Hertig, Gabriela

PhD Director: Shalini Randeria

Abstract: India is emerging as a leading player in stem cell science which has begun to flourish in a robust public-private symbiosis in the country. Yet, it is a main issue of controversies that the field remains unregulated till date. In this project I ask about the issues at stake in the regulation of stem cell research and therapeutics and how the cellular form is governed by different actors, institutions, discursive fields, imaginaries and logics. This question will be answered through a multi-sited ethnographic approach."
